Brief Project Summary:

The potential benefits of incorporating cover crops into field crop rotations are often limited by Michigan’s brief growing season. The objectives of this research are to explore the impacts of terminating a cereal rye cover crop after soybean planting and to determine the best termination method. The second year of this research has been initiated at the MSU Agronomy Farm in East Lansing, MI to look at terminating rye at three growth stages, at or after no-till planting of soybeans. Rye termination methods include glyphosate application, mowing, and a combination of the two methods. Rye characteristics will be evaluated at the time of termination and the breakdown of the residue will be...
