Brief Project Summary:

Soybean rust is controlled by appropriate fungicide. Host resistance has not yet been employed as a major control method, probably due to the lack of known sources for stable and strong resistance. With financial support from MSPC, we established two rust nurseries in China and screened over 2,700 early maturing Chinese soybean germplasm in the two nurseries for rust resistance. Fifty accessions showing resistance to the disease were brought to Michigan. Some of these accessions were evaluated for rust resistance in Georgia and Mississippi and showed rust resistance in the US. The confirmed resistance sources, such as GD0518, GD2385, GD2422, etc., were crossed with our advanced breeding...
