Brief Project Summary:

Soybean cyst nematode (SCN) continues to be a major pest of soybeans in Wisconsin. Many growers have still not sampled their fields. By training and partnering with industry, we plan to increase our direct contact with growers to increase SCN sampling and an understanding of the pest.

In 2012, 338 soil samples were submitted to the UW Plant Diagnostic Clinic for SCN analyses. Of these samples, 79% of the samples were negative for SCN and of those positive, the average egg count was 3,700 eggs/100cc, with a high of 24,000 eggs/100cc. This program, plus the Extension's SCN workshops is increasing the understanding that nematodes and the Fusarium fungi have major impact on soybean profitability...
