Two soilborne diseases, Neocosmospora Rot and Black Root Rot were identified in soybeans in Arkansas during 2008-09. Yield loss was not determined, but was estimated by producers to be substantial for some fields. Sudden Death Syndrome of soybeans is also prevalent in soybean fields in certain years and continues to result in yield losses. Because all three of these pathogens appear to be primarily early season (cool soil temperature) pathogens, there is a need to understand their impact on soybeans in an early season production system.
