Brief Project Summary:

Four new insect pests of soybeans were identified for the first time in Alabama in 2010. The new insect pests included the Kudzu bug, red banded stink bug, red shouldered stink bug and the brown marmorated stink bug. The kudzu bug (a family of insects closely related to the stink bug) has become firmly established across much of Georgia and South Carolina and feeds on kudzu, soybeans and other legumes just like stink bugs. Studies conducted in Georgia have shown the kudzu bug can reduce soybean yields by 19%.
