Four new insect pests of soybeans were identified for the first time in Alabama in 2010. The new insect pests included the Kudzu bug, red banded stink bug, red shouldered stink bug and the brown marmorated stink bug. The kudzu bug (also called the globular stink bug) is native to China and India and is in a family of insects closely related to the stink bug family. The kudzu bug has become firmly established across much of Georgia and South Carolina within 2 years after it was first identified.
