Brief Project Summary:

This project is designed to determine impact of fire ants in the soybean agroecosystem. Researchers will initiate studies for determining the impact of fire ants on insect populations both pest and beneficial. Recent studies indicate beneficial insects may be reduced as well as some key pests in fire ant infested fields. Stink bugs in particular appear to be impacted by fire ants presence in the field. In addition, researchers aim to determine the loss in yield associated with fire ant populations in soybean. Early studies indicate that yield may be impacted due to mound presence causing problem with the combine header having to be held higher off the ground and other associated problems....
