Brief Project Summary:

This project fully aligns with the mission of MSPC by increasing the return on investment for Michigan soybean farmers as well as enhancing sustainable production systems. Modified relay intercropping system (soybean intercropped into wheat) may increase per acre profitability by harvesting both wheat and soybean grain crops within the same year.

In Michigan, double crop soybean production (soybeans planted after wheat harvest), is not al-ways possible due to a short growing season. However, intercropping soybean into an actively growing wheat crop allows more time for the soybean plants to grow, increase biomass, and ultimately have the potential for higher yields.
