In 2007, Michigan was part of a multi-state classical bio-control effort to establish a parasitoid for the soybean aphid (SBA). Permits were approved by the US and Canadian government and individual states in 2007 for the parasitic wasp, Binodoxys communis, to be released. Small numbers of wasps were shipped to cooperating states for increasing in field cages. Michigan releases were made in small SBA infected cages at seven locations. In late August, cages were removed to allow any surviving wasps to disperse.
