There is currently a great deal of interest in increasing soybean yield, and some producers have turned to applying N fertilizer without clear evidence that this practice increases yield or is economically prudent. This research compares the yield response to N fertilizer for normal and late-planted soybeans with soybeans receiving no N fertilizer with and without inoculant when grown under irrigated conditions. It determines the amount of biologically fixed N with and without N fertilizer and with and without inoculant. The project also assesses the economic feasibility of inoculating and/or fertilizing soybeans with N under normal- and late-planted conditions.
