Variable-orifice nozzles are being supplied by a few tip manufacturers today while gaining interest among farmers due to their larger turn down ratios over traditional fixed orifice tips. The premise of these nozzles are to provide a larger flow range over typical sprayer operating pressures and in some cases a 1:1 flow to pressure ratio. However, these nozzles incorporate moving parts and springs. Therefore, we are proposing to evaluate the performance of commercially available variable-orifice nozzles.
