Brief Project Summary:

This project includes two studies focused on poultry litter for fertilizer. Litter is an alternative organic fertilizer that is increasing in availability in important soybean producing regions of Tennessee. One study examines soybean production using a direct application of poultry broiler litter at planting under a no-till system of dryland production. The other examines soybean produced in rotation with corn, wherein a prior year rotational corn crop was fertilized with different rates of poultry (broiler) litter. The project also conducts a soybean yield contest and supports maturity group planting date trials.

Key Benefactors:
farmers, agronomists, extension agents, livestock producers, poultry producers
