In 2017, un-replicated variety demonstrations were established in Franklin, Forsyth/Surry/Stokes/Yadkin, Hertford, Johnston, Lenoir, Northampton, Onslow, Pender, Person, Robeson, Union, and Wake counties to demonstrate 15 of the more promising varieties available on the market, and expected to still be on the market in 2018. All of the varieties ranked first or second in one of the six yield categories we rank varieties for, or were in the top ten in their maturity group in five of the six categories. Interestingly, of the 34 varieties which met the yield criteria through 2016, only 15 were expected to still be on the market in 2018. Two of the varieties were maturity group 4, four were group 5, six were group 6, and three were group 7. Eleven were glyphosate tolerant, three were Liberty Link, and 1 was an Extend variety; none were conventional.
