Brief Project Summary:

The Northeastern United States has quickly become an important market for biodiesel, primarily due to growing market acceptance of Bioheat®, a mixture of biodiesel and conventional diesel fuel that is used to heat homes and commercial buildings. Recently, several states and local governments have adopted Bioheat® mandates and incentives. These include Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York State, New York City, and three “Downstate” New York counties. To ensure proper implementation of these policies, it would be wise to keep technical staff employed in the region. Project Deliverables

NBB staff and contract representatives will, on a regular and ongoing basis, conduct personal meetings with individuals from regulatory agencies. The purpose of these meetings will be to discuss technical issues associated with biodiesel.
• Provide economic and technical information upon request to stakeholders to support their efforts toward ensuring fact-based rulemaking processes and the development of state biodiesel initiatives.
• Proactively work with key states in the northeast to assist in coordination and provision of technical and economic information to aide in the development of fact-based rulemaking processes and growth in support for state biodiesel initiatives.
• Management of staff and contractors to provide adequate resources to address stakeholder requests for technical information.

Final Project Results

The United Soybean Research Retention policy will display final reports with the project once completed but working files will be purged after three years. And financial information after seven years.
