This project employs next generation DNA sequencing techniques to generate a soybean disease-related gene expression catalog database that shows the mRNA level for each identifiable mRNA found in soybean root and leaf tissues in healthy plants, and in pathogen-infected, diseased tissues for six different soybean pathogens. The transcriptome database has been created for leaf and root tissues infected with reniform nematode, root knot nematode, soybean cyst nematode and southern blight. Completing the transcriptome for charcoal rot and sudden death syndrome is in progress. Analysis of this catalog for nematodes has allowed identification of diagnostic sequences that can be used to monitor pathogen infection.
