Brief Project Summary:

The previous funded project was to identify exogenous enzymes that consistently increase digestibility of soybean hulls used in creep rations and to determine the actual cost to benefit ratio and return on investment of using enzymes to improve soybean hulls utilization. We have completed the screening part and have selected the best enzyme (NSPase) that is currently used in an animal study. The animal study (sample collection and analyses) will be completed by December 2016. We strongly believe there is need to repeat the animal study using the same enzyme (NSPase). We were limited to 4 pens for the animal study so it makes sense to repeat this part to ensure that results will not be affected...

Project Deliverables

The project will deliver enhanced feed efficiency in creepfed calves through the use of exogenous enzymes that can improve fiber digestibility of soybean hulls (as an energy-dense ingredient). This will be accomplished by:
1) Determine the actual cost to benefit ratio and return on investment of using enzymes to improve soybean hulls utilization, which will provide beef producers with the information needed before adopting this technology.

Final Project Results

The United Soybean Research Retention policy will display final reports with the project once completed but working files will be purged after three years. And financial information after seven years.
