The proposed research will identify genotypes from the USDA Soybean Germplasm Collection that will then be available for researchers and breeders to develop cultivars with improved defense to stink bugs and E. coryli, a fungal pathogen transferred by stink bugs and the cause of yeast stain disease. The research will be published in peer-reviewed journals to allow wide dissemination of our findings to the scientific community. The research will also provide some insight into the biology of the defensive responses by examining gene expression changes in response to stink bug feeding and E. coryli infection.
