These studies are new initiatives and directions for most states. For Ohio and Iowa, this allows us to continue (post-Monsanto funding) what was initiated. Collaborators are receiving support from their state check-off to examine best management practices for soybean diseases (IA, OH, MN). Funding of this project will allow the PI’s to leverage additional funding through partnerships with Industry to evaluate the efficacy of experimental materials in trials, expand the number of sites to evaluate management practices (IA, OH, NE). This study will also complement research objectives on Pythium that are part of the NCSRP “Seedling diseases: Biology, Management and Education” (Chilvers, Malvick, Robertson, Wise); and the final year of the NIFA-OSCAP project, oomycete survey and characterization (Chilvers, Geisler, Wise, Malvick, Robertson).
