Update:
The Southern Soybean Program is made up of the following states: Kentucky, Tennessee, Texas, Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina. The board met twice in FY 16, once in conjunction with the ASA/USB Board Meeting and again with Commodity Classic in New Orleans.
The group approved $50,000.00 of funding for the following project “Developing Irrigation Management Strategies for Soybean Production in Humid Regions of the Southern US”. The project is a joint collaboration of University of Kentucky, University of Georgia, Auburn University, and University of Tennessee.
A introductory article was written and sent out to all member states to use in their respective state publications.
In addition, we had a representative at the Soybean Marker Dedication Ceremony at the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography McGowan Library Auditorium on January 9th to commmerate when soybeans first came to the United States.
The group elected the following to serve as officers: Chairman- George Martin (KY), Vice Chair - Andy Scott (TX) and Secretary/Treasurer – David Womack (TN).
We are excited to see the preliminary work being done with the currently funded research project and are looking forward to the results form it.
