1) All samples provided by USDA-NASS from their OY 2014 survey are analyzed by NIR for crude protein, oil and specific amino acids using designated Foss NIR instrument and spectra is predicted using Foss provided software and calibrations.
2) Results from the 2014 crop are summarized by multi-county FIPS districts and reported using tables, data maps and charts suitable for display on the U.S. Soy Measurements section of the USB web site. To gain greater perspective on the implications of observed compositional differences, results from the use of compositional data in INI models will also be presented. A narrative will accompany the display of results.
a. A major focus will be on amino acid characteristics and value illustrations will include the use of least-cost formulation comparisons
- Focus will be on amino acids of greatest practical and economic importance in swine and poultry feeds
3) Information developed as part of item 2 above will be assembled into a series of “pages” and sent to USDA-NASS for their review and approval to “publish”. After USDA-NASS approval, the pages will be provided to Osborn & Barr for inclusion on the USB web site.
4) As interest in the composition opportunity continues to increase, additional opportunities for communicating information to producers and other value chain participants are identified and pursued.
a. In person presentation by PI to review project learnings with USB decision makers at date TBD
