Soybean rust was first reported in 2007 in Oklahoma and again in 2008 about a week before a killing frost in late October. The state's sentinel plot program and rust monitoring activities by soybean growers and crop advisors have increased the awareness of the presence of other foliar diseases in the state. Septoria brown spot is present in most soybean fields and causes noticeable defoliation. Other diseases found in the state include frogeye leaf spot, bacterial blight, Cercospora blight and downy mildew.
