Farmers are planting soybeans earlier than normally recommended - is this trend producing higher yields? Private industry planting date data is available but recent university-based data is very limited. Will early planting in no-till tend to reduce plant stands and yield, due to less than desirable soil conditions or disease? Will starter P aid establishment of early-planted soybean in either tillage system? NDSU recommends broadcast P as the best choice for yield response, but this is based on Midwest research, with currently limited ND data. The issue of fungicides for plant health needs to be examined as a production management strategy.

This preliminary database would indicate a potential yield and economic advantage by using the combination of early planting, direct seed system, broadcast application of fertilizer and foliar fungicide.
