This project involves developing management strategies for minimizing the impact of insect pests in early soybean production systems and conventional soybean plantings. Objectives seek to identify seasonal periods that are most susceptible to damage from insect pests, evaluate the effects of season-long caterpillar control, document potential risk from caterpillar pests by using disruptive pyrethroid sprays, develop risk models for major caterpillar pests, identify periods of greatest benefit for using high-value insecticides and document potential risk vs. reward for disruptive insecticide treatments.
