In Louisiana, soybean diseases are widespread, major issue. The climate is optimal for many diseases that affect yield and seed quality. These diseases include: Cercospora leaf blight, purple seed stain, frogeye leaf spot, pod and stem blight and anthracnose. If not properly diagnosed and managed, they can cause major yield loss. This project will assist researchers in developing management recommendations. It aims to evaluate soybean varieties in the LSU AgCenter Official Soybean Variety Trials for resistance to pathogens common to the region, evaluate commercially available and experimental fungicides for soybean disease management and quantify disease losses in selected soybean varieties to determine when/if fungicide applications are necessary.
