The occurrence of the Dectes stem borer, Dectes texanus, is increasing in parts of Kansas. However, the reason for this expansion is not known but may be attributed to the availability of alternate hosts, winter survival and other environmental factors.
Resistance to stem borer damage is heritable and can be selected for individual soybean plants.
