Effective herbicide treatments for weed control require attention to factors that influence efficacy such as product selection and rate, equipment calibration, and application timing. However, one ignored factor is the quality of the water used to spray the product. Water comprises about 99% of herbicide spray solutions. Little is known about the effect of water quality on glufosinate, dicamba, and 2,4-D. It is anticipated that dicamba-tolerant and 2,4-D-tolerant soybeans will be available to growers and it is probable these technologies will be stacked with glyphosate and/or glufosinate tolerant genes. Tank mixes of Roundup or Liberty with dicamba, 2,4-D, and saflufenacil will give information on their compatibility with hard water and extreme or normal water pH values.
