Brief Project Summary:

The major goal of the whole project is to identify molecular markers (tags) closely linked to or located within new and known Rps genes, which confer resistance to Phytophthora Root Rot (PRR). These molecular "tags" will subsequently be used in marker-assisted selection (MAS) programs to accelerate the incorporation of the Rps genes into elite soybean cultivars that have other desired traits and high yields.

This project was initiated in 2009, and an additional year is needed to achieve the proposed research goal. Two soybean varieties that carry excellent resistance to all Phytophthora sojae races examined have been previously discovered by screening a large number of soybean germplasm....
