Purdue University has taken the lead in developing a simple-to use, science-based tool for calculation of reasonable odor setbacks for existing and proposed livestock facilities in Indiana. The model has been used over the last several years to resolve conflicts between livestock producers and neighbors in various situations. The model has been developed in phases; the first phase was to identify individual sources, setback distances, emission levels and odor abatement methods.
