Soybean meal is a cost-effective alternative protein ingredient to replace fish meal in aquaculture feeds. While soybean meal has many desirable traits, it can still be genetically improved. This study will develop germplasm that has even more value to fish feeds. The study has the following objectives:
~ Cross new ultra-low trypsin varieties with high protein lines to produce lines with low trypsin inhibitor and high protein levels.
~ Use molecular marker technology to add soybean cyst nematode resistance. and
~ Release varieties with competitive yields, low trypsin inhibitor and forty-five percent protein.
