Brief Project Summary:

The goal of this research is to develop best management practices that enhance the productivity of cropping systems on drained croplands while minimizing environmental impacts for profitable crop production. This project will evaluate the production, economic, and environmental impacts of drainage sub-irrigation and the climatic drivers influencing their design. A drainage sub-irrigation field site will be monitored for crop yield, soil water content, water table depth, irrigation inflow, drainage outflow, and water quality. Collected data will be used to estimate sub-irrigation production and economic benefits and to evaluate the effectiveness of drainage sub-irrigation systems for reducing nutrient losses from drained lands.

Key Benefactors:
farmers, agronomists, engineers, ag retailers

Information And Results
Project Deliverables

Tool for spacing and installing a sub-irrigation. The main result was going to be Best Management Practices when installing and using a sub-irrigation system, but the project could not find a farmer to work with.

Final Project Results

The United Soybean Research Retention policy will display final reports with the project once completed but working files will be purged after three years. And financial information after seven years. All pertinent information is in the final report or if you want more information, please contact the project lead at your state soybean organization or principal investigator listed on the project.
