Brief Project Summary:

Growers are looking for additional ways to verify that fertilizer applications are meeting soybean nutritional needs and maximizing yield. Plant tissue analysis is becoming routine. However, the interpretation of these laboratory concentrations needs to be reassessed, since most were derived in the 1960s. Objectives of this project include: updating soil test and leaf phosphorus concentration interpretations; evaluating variability of soybean leaf nutrient concentrations with on-farm strip trials; document and understand leaf nutrient concentration changes through the growth stages of 10 soybean varieties; and creating outreach materials to provide the updated nutrient sufficiency ranges and interpretations, and a how-to video for taking a soybean leaf sample for nutrient analysis.
