Life cycle studies have shown that using biodiesel in the place of petroleum diesel reduces net CO emissions. This is because the CO from the combustion of biodiesel from plant sources is recycled back into the vegetation by photosynthesis and less fossil fuel is used in the production of biodiesel compared to petroleum diesel. Therefore, replacing a small portion of the petroleum, diesel with biodiesel can have a significant effect on net CO emissions.
This study will compare the reduction of CO emissions from the production and use of biodiesel derived from canola and soybean oil. The researchers will account for soil carbon sequestration in assessing the life cycle of CO? emission...
