Brief Project Summary:

The North Carolina State University's soybean breeding program is working to develop both high yielding conventional varieties and high yielding conventional varieties with modified fatty acid content that are adapted to NC growing conditions. Non-GMO high yielding varieties and germplasm with regular or enhanced oil and protein quality can be readily crossed and used with any regulatory approved and licensed transgene of interest without the need to seek a special regulatory permit for "staking of genes". In contrast, when 2 transgenes are staked, a new regulatory permit is needed to the combination of the two genes and it is a very laborious and prohibitively expensive process.
