The project's goal is to identify periods of soybean development when irrigation water can be withheld or curtailed in order to reduce seasonal irrigation application amounts, and to increase soybean yield potential and profitability by developing production systems that require up to 25% less irrigation water. This may be accomplished by determining: ptimum physiological period for initiating irrigation; critical physiological period for terminating irrigation, and growth stage(s) when deficit irrigation adversely affects yield and profitability.
