Management of the soybean cyst nematode (SCN) remains a challenge for profitable soybean production in spite of widespread availability of SCN-resistant soybean cultivars. This is mainly due to the selection of SCN-virulent populations by the resistant cultivars. After a number of years of using SCN-resistant cultivars, SCN populations in most fields in Minnesota have changed to the types that can overcome resistance in the current commercial cultivars. For effective long-term SCN management, an integrated program with multiple strategies is needed. While new SCN-resistance genes will be highly useful for future SCN management, using SCN-tolerant soybean cultivars has promising potential...
