Brief Project Summary:

Although the average yield of soybean in the US has increased at a nearly steady rate of 22kg/ha per year since 1924, the yield gains of soybean in the past 2-3 decades were modest due primarily to the low level of genetic diversity in soybean landraces and cultivars. Wild soybean has abundant genetic diversity and thus has great potential for sustained improvement of soybean over the long term. As we face erratic changes in climate and new pathogen pressures, we will increasingly rely on the untapped diversity of wild soybean.
