Brief Project Summary:
This project is focused on the development of high oleic, low linolenic (HOLL) soybean varieties that will be marketed under the SOYLEICâ„¢ name. This is a source of high-quality soybean oil that can be used to win back the market share of soybean oil in the food industry and increase industrial uses of the oil.
The goal of this research is to test and commercialize soybean varieties with improved seed oil quality to give growers new opportunities for producing soybean with a value-added trait and to increase demand for soybean oil.

Project Objectives

Our focus will be to increase the number of SOYLEIC lines that are yield tested and to increase the number of environments and replications these lines are tested.

Project Deliverables

We will continue to identify and release Illinois adapted SOYLEIC varieties. The program released five SOYLEIC varieties in 2021, which were increased by industry partners, and are entering commercial production in 2023. Five new SOYLEIC lines are being increased in Puerto Rico and Illinois, and will be released in 2024, and we have more promising varieties in the breeding pipeline. There is, however, a need for more and better varieties that are adapted to the region before production can expand to its full potential.

Final Project Results

Benefit To Soybean Farmers

If the SOYLEIC program is successful, farmers in Illinois will have opportunities to increase the value of their crop.

The United Soybean Research Retention policy will display final reports with the project once completed but working files will be purged after three years. And financial information after seven years. All pertinent information is in the final report or if you want more information, please contact the project lead at your state soybean organization or principal investigator listed on the project.
