Contributing Organization (Checkoff):
Institution Funded:
$150,000
Brief Project Summary:
We aim to conduct field research to identify commercially available resistant cultivars, define potential yield losses, and determine effective fungicide options. Our proposed research will produce integrated and applied disease management solutions for farmers resulting in reduced yield losses (increased yield gains) improving their bottom-line value.

Final Project Results

We conducted multiple field trials related to taproot decline (TRD) management during the 2023 season. A variety trial containing entries from AR, LA, and MS official variety trials was planted, inoculated, and rated for TRD. A seed treatment/in-furrow fungicide trial was planted, inoculated, rated, and harvested in six locations in AR, LA, and MS. Additionally, resistant and susceptible varieties from a range of maturity groups were planted, inoculated, rated, and harvested in the same locations. As of the report deadline, data is currently still being collected, compiled, and analyzed for this project.

Benefit To Soybean Farmers

Had this project been allowed to continue for more than one season, the results from these field studies would have had significant implications on TRD management. TRD resistant and susceptible varieties would have been identified and potential yield losses would be further defined. Seed treatment or in furrow fungicide options would have possibly been added as a management tool, and we would have further defined the distribution of the pathogen in the southern US.

The United Soybean Research Retention policy will display final reports with the project once completed but working files will be purged after three years. And financial information after seven years. All pertinent information is in the final report or if you want more information, please contact the project lead at your state soybean organization or principal investigator listed on the project.
