Brief Project Summary:
The goal is to develop a sustainable filler for the rubber industry that does not impact the food supply. This work is important to soybean farmers because we have proven in past work that carbonized soybean hull can be used as a partial replacement for carbon black.

Final Project Results

Carbonized soybean hull is a viable replacement for replacement of carbon black. Thus far it works best as up to a 25% replacement of virgin carbon black.

Benefit To Soybean Farmers

Soybean hull sells for $150/ton and carbon black sells for $2000/ton. % retention after carbonizing soybean hull is 41%. This equates to $820 / ton for carbonized soybean hull if sold at a similar price as carbon black.

The United Soybean Research Retention policy will display final reports with the project once completed but working files will be purged after three years. And financial information after seven years. All pertinent information is in the final report or if you want more information, please contact the project lead at your state soybean organization or principal investigator listed on the project.
