Update:
There is nothing yet to report. By mid January, I will have an updated timeline for this project. Of course, all the convenings will now be virtual, which was discussed with the strategic planning firm when I engaged them.

Update:
We submitted a request to extend the project deadline by one year, which was approved by the board. I have communicated this with the Coordinated Soybean Centers group. Our timeline is now shifted forward 1 year, with planning to start in the next quarter, starting with identifying convening dates.

Update:
To address increasing demand for soy in plant-based proteins and fake meats, we propose to build multidisciplinary teams with agronomists, geneticists, economists, social scientists, food scientists, and nutritionists. The teams will elucidate challenges and opportunities by holding three Soybean Stakeholder Convenings, at Purdue University (West Lafayette, IN), IA State University (Ames, IA), and University of Missouri (held in St. Louis, MO), with the goal of developing a proposal or proposals. Support for facilitation of the Convenings will be shared with the Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR), with Jeff Rosichan, Ph.D., Director, Crops of the Future Collaborative and Next Generation Crops engaging in the process at FFAR. The Soybean Centers, FFAR, and USB will work together to involve industry stakeholders, USDA, and NIFA. Outcomes will include summary reports addressing opportunities, challenges and stigmas to soybean utilization in plant-based diets.

Final Project Results

Benefit To Soybean Farmers

The United Soybean Research Retention policy will display final reports with the project once completed but working files will be purged after three years. And financial information after seven years. All pertinent information is in the final report or if you want more information, please contact the project lead at your state soybean organization or principal investigator listed on the project.
