Soybean Cyst Nematode (SCN) and Iron Deficiency Chlorosis (IDC) are likely the two largest maladies of soybean in Minnesota. These two soil-based issues are problematic for a wide variety of reasons that not only make them tough for farmers to manage, but also make them particularly difficult to research in the field. To make matters worse, these two production issues tend to occur together and likely act synergistically to amplify damage caused by the other. We will not make significant research progress investigating either issue without controlling for the other.
