Despite the importance of seed composition and yield in determining crop value, little is known about the genes responsible for controlling these traits. In previous research we determined that the SIS8 (also known as LUCI1) gene from the model oilseed plant Arabidopsis thaliana is a strong candidate to play an important role in regulating seed composition and, possibly, yield. The overall goal of this project is to test the effects of SIS8 activity on seed composition and yield in soybean. Towards this end, transgenic soybean lines carrying the SIS8 gene under the control of a strong promoter were generated. A preliminary field test during the summer of 2016 suggested that expressing SIS8...
