Brief Project Summary:

This project will provide an initial screening of diverse germplasm for resistance to stem borer found in Nebraska. We will do a large-scale screen of diverse germplasm to assess stem breakage, girdling, and oviposition punctures due to Dectes stem borer infestation. To assess antixenosis and antibiosis we will do a more labor intensive screening on a smaller number of lines that maximize genetic diversity or have demonstrated potential resistance through the large-scale screen. Through these screens, we will identify the best methods to screen for genetic resistance to help us design genetic studies to map and discover resistant genes. We will also identify germplasm that has potential...

Project Deliverables

The primary deliverable is to provide an initial screening of diverse soybean germplasm for resistance to soybean stem borer in Nebraska. This initial screening will help us to identify the best methods to screen for genetic resistance. It will also identify soybean plant introductions that demonstrate resistance in the initial screening that can be followed up in a project set up to perform more extensive screening to confirm the if they are resistance.

The United Soybean Research Retention policy will display final reports with the project once completed but working files will be purged after three years. And financial information after seven years. All pertinent information is in the final report or if you want more information, please contact the project lead at your state soybean organization or principal investigator listed on the project.
