1. Collect 390 representative samples of the soybean crop at the farm level from Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.
2. All samples will be scanned using NIR at the University of Minnesota to obtain spectral data to be used to develop NIR calibrations for the South American sample set for amino acids, fatty acids and soluble sugars, in addition to crude protein and crude oil.
3. Analyze a subset of 240 samples from the Annual U.S. Soybean Quality Survey by wet chemistry to determine ADF, NDF, amino acids, fatty acids and soluble sugars.
4. Provide participant South American farmers with protein and oil values for their sample and a summary of average protein and oil values from their state or region.
5. Summarize analyses for both the U.S. sample set and South American sample set and distribute to USB and USSEC staff.
