The following outputs/deliverables are expected:
December 2016. A preliminary report of data from the SCN regional test will be distributed to cooperating breeders electronically.
January 2017. A final report will be printed into a book for and distributed to test participants, USB, and other interested parties.
March 2017. The 2017 test will be organized.
April 2017. Seed of lines in the tests will be distributed to cooperators.
This research will provide important data to soybean breeders on the performance of their experimental lines compared to elite check genotypes and to the best lines from other research programs. This will provide information that will help these breeders make decisions on what experimental lines to release and use as parents and will eventually aid growers through the increased availability of high yielding, SCN resistant varieties with resistance from PI 88788 and other sources. These varieties and experimental lines in the test also will be used as SCN resistant parents by breeders in private industry which will help them develop high yielding, SCN resistant varieties. Improvements in the yield of soybean varieties in the US will help increase the competitiveness of US produced soybean against other oil/protein sources in the world market.
