The most common nematode pest of field crops in the North Central Region is the root lesion nematode, Pratylenchus spp. Root knot nematodes can be very damaging to soybean and are considered to be more damaging than soybean cyst nematode in some production areas of Brazil. Almost every field in Wisconsin is infested with root lesion nematodes and in studies we have found 8% of the soil samples negative for soybean cyst nematodes which were shown to have high populations of root lesion nematodes. This project will continue to study the importance of the root lesion nematode and to develop management recommendations for minimizing its damage to soybean production.
