Project Deliverables

1. Screen about 500 groups III and IV soybean plant introductions (PIs) for tolerance to drought and flooding to identify soybean germplasm for development of soybeans with greater productivity under field conditions of too little or too much water.
2. Evaluate the physiological mechanisms in plants responsible for drought and flooding tolerance among selected tolerant PIs under field and greenhouse conditions.
3. Develop populations with an emphasis on drought tolerant PIs for gene discovery and incorporating drought tolerant traits into elite soybean lines (maturity groups III and IV).
4. Clone and characterize genes and molecular switches associated with yield and stress tolerance mechanisms, and develop transgenic soybeans adapted to stress conditions with enhanced yield.

Final Project Results

The United Soybean Research Retention policy will display final reports with the project once completed but working files will be purged after three years.
