Brief Project Summary:

Seed and seedling diseases are becoming a major problem in soybean production, especially in areas with long histories of soybean production. Pythium is one group of pathogens that has not been studied in ND. These organisms attack young succulent tissue and are often difficult to diagnose in the field. Management of these pathogens will depend on understanding which species are causing disease in ND. Management techniques can vary depending on the species attacking soybean.

Final Project Results

There are differences among species in how aggressive they attack the plants. Some of the most aggressive species that caused pre-emergence damping-off resulting in almost no plant emergence were P. ultimum, P. minus, P. hypogenum and P. viniferum.

The United Soybean Research Retention policy will display final reports with the project once completed but working files will be purged after three years. And financial information after seven years.
