Despite Minnesota's long tradition of artificial drainage, surprisingly little data exists on the agronomic benefits of drainage, and we understand little about the role drainage plays in pest and disease management and the maintenance of soil quality. With funding from the MSR&PC, the Minnesota Lake, MN research site was established during the summer of 2011. The 17-acre site contains 8 independently drained blocks occupying about 10 acres of the most uniform soils at this site. The fields were left fallow in 2011, plots were established in 2012 to begin the 50-50 Corn-Soybean rotation, and full-scale research was to begin in 2013.
