Brief Project Summary:

One of the goals of this project is to identify and confirm the genes that cause differences in Iron Deficiency Chlorosis (IDC) response among cultivars, and target these genes for improvement in susceptible cultivars. In addition, the researchers will use their transformation pathways to test the function of specific genes for nitrogen assimilation. The researchers will use a new technique called Zinc Finger Nuclease (ZFN) and TALEN mutagenesis to mutate genes of interest and recover non-transgenic mutants with improved traits.
